Mother Nature is a great source of inspiration for us. Founded by Blan and Wendee Lee, a mother and daughter duo, we started Biconi after personally experiencing the healing power of natural ingredients in restoring our own health and that of our family.
When our husband and father was diagnosed with cancer, we wanted to harness the power of natural ingredients to help him with his medical treatments. What started out as an experiment – a small batch of soap bars infused with our homemade noni enzyme – turned into a lifelong passion when we saw first hand, how effective something as simple as a natural bar of soap can be.
From our home in Singapore and Malaysia, we grew up cherishing the amazing biodiversity of South East Asia but were dismayed by the lack of appreciation elsewhere. Our mission is to change this, by bringing to the world the wonders of our heritage – in the most natural way.
Our products are developed with a focus on South East Asian ingredients, but we are not afraid to include ingredients from other parts of the world when relevant. Of all the potent ingredients we have at our disposal, there are two ingredients that hold a very special place in our hearts: virgin coconut oil and our very own Biconi Noni Enzyme.
Our favourite ingredients
Virgin Coconut Oil (Cocos Nucifera) is extracted from the flesh of ripe coconuts, without the use of any heat, to protect its nutritional properties. This tropical cold-pressed oil not only smells delicious, it is also packed with medium chain fatty acids (MCFA) – the key component that is responsible for the many benefits of virgin coconut oil.
When applied to skin, it can help to reduce inflammation, protect from infections and is intensively moisturising. This makes it the perfect weapon against skin problems such as dermatitis, eczema, acne and dry skin. One of only a few oils with the ability to penetrate into the hair shaft, virgin coconut oil can also be used to help treat dry, damaged hair as well as flaky, itchy scalp.
Our food-grade virgin coconut oil is grown and made by our local partners in Malaysia, and is featured in every single product we carry.
Noni (Morinda Citrifolia) is an evergreen tree native to South East Asia and has been used for centuries by the local community for its countless medicinal benefits. Famed for its high antioxidant properties, the noni fruit has frequently been used as a natural health supplement for a wide range of health ailments.
Its lesser-known benefit is in helping to brighten and even out skin tone along with delaying the signs of ageing. Noni can also help to revitalise the health of our cells, not only on the skin but also on our hair and scalp. It is for this reason that our shampoo bars remain a best seller, as it can help to rejuvenate thinning hair.
We take fresh noni fruits grown organically in Malaysia to produce our very own Biconi Noni Enzyme by hand. This enzyme concentrates the potency of noni, for use in our products.
Truly natural, conscious products
Another factor that is crucial for us is our impact on the planet, and we are constantly working to reduce our environmental footprint. For this reason, we formulate our products in concentrated doses to minimise waste in addition to packing our products in recycled or recyclable materials. We also prefer to work with local suppliers and empowering our local communities.
We choose to produce our products by hand in small batches to maximise our potent natural ingredients. Harsh chemicals such as SLS, parabens, mineral oils and silicones do not belong in Biconi as we are convinced that our products will work much better without them. Being animal lovers ourselves, we only offer vegan-friendly products and would never, in a million years, test on animals. Instead, we test our products on ourselves…and willing friends and family!
