People often wait until a problem is noticeable before they do anything about it.
One such problem is dark, dry elbows and knees that get neglected during exfoliating and moisturizing routines. Don't let that happen. It's no fun when you feel like you have to wear long sleeves and pants to keep dark elbows and knees covered up.
If you've already tried, you know that trying to scrub off the dark spots with soap has little effect.
The good news, though, is that elbows and knees can actually be softened and lightened naturally and easily.
An Age-old Remedy
Before modern times and cosmetics, people looked to natural products for smooth, soft and even skin. In many Asian countries, virgin coconut oil was the exfoliant and moisturizer of choice. It also worked well as an overall massage oil.
The more things change, the more they stay the same! Virgin coconut oil is still nature's perfect solution to dry, dark skin, including the skin on elbows and knees.
Why so Dry?
Knees and elbows are particularly prone to dryness and discoloration. It's a common problem. Dead skin cells accumulate in these areas and because there are no oil glands, the cells build up and harden. Not only that, but these spots are particularly prone to being leaned on, which makes them vulnerable to callus-like roughening and dirt.
Exfoliate and Moisturize
To counteract the problem, you simply need to exfoliate and moisturize.
Luckily, virgin coconut oil accomplishes both of these tasks at once, for much lower cost than commercially produced treatments.
Knees are the focal point of your legs. You don't want dark, dry patches on them.
A Great Mix
Virgin coconut oil works well by itself, but mixing it with lemon juice can make for a powerful punch.
Combine one teaspoon of coconut oil with 1/2 teaspoon of lemon juice in a bowl. For additional exfoliating power, some people add crushed walnuts to the mix. Thoroughly rub this solution into knees and elbows to lighten and soften, leaving on for a good 15 to 20 minutes.
Give one final, intense rub before wiping off the excess with paper towels.
With its minerals, fatty acids and antimicrobal properties, virgin coconut oil works to hydrate, detoxify and nourish the skin.
Follow this procedure after every bath and shower, at least once per day, for beautiful, light and soft elbows and knees.
After the exfoliating process, you can use a dab of virgin coconut oil to further moisturize the areas.
Some people put cloth or soft bandages over their knees and elbows to seal in moisture, especially if the problems are particularly noticeable. This can expedite the healing process.
In just a few weeks, you should see a significant difference.
