New Study: Half of Women Fight Hair Loss

Posted on

Hair loss and thinning hair are thought to be more of a male problem, only affecting a small number of females. When females experience hair loss, it is commonly attributed to an illness or cancer treatment, but according to a study in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology, up to 50% of women suffer some amount of thinning hair or hair loss by the age of 50.

The female hair loss studied was caused by genetics, not illness, and was permanent without treatment. Androgenetic Alopecia generally shows itself in one of two ways: thinning hair and hair loss where the hair is parted, or hair that grows in but doesn't reach a normal length. This genetic condition can affect females as young as 12 years old and typically shows itself by age 40.

Women who experience hair loss and thinning are typically quite distraught by the condition. Having thick, full hair is strongly associated with beauty, so it is very difficult for women with noticeably thinner hair to see themselves as attractive. Many women go to great lengths to try to hide their thinning hair with creative hairstyles, hats, or other hair accessories.

What Can Women Do About Hair Loss?

Even when hair loss is a genetic condition, there are ways to encourage hair regrowth and to make thinning hair appear thicker and fuller. Your doctor can offer drug treatments like minoxidil that appear to help some hair regrow. When you couple these conventional treatments with natural ones, however, it can increase their overall effectiveness and give the best possible results.

Virgin coconut oil has many vitamins and antioxidants that improve the health of your skin, including hair follicles. Sometimes, hair follicles become blocked or develop in an unhealthy way that prevents them from growing hair. With regular use, coconut oil absorbs into the scalp, gently exfoliating dead skin cells and helping new hair follicles to develop in a healthier way. Over time, these healthier follicles may produce new hair.

Another benefit to virgin coconut oil is that it penetrates the hair shaft itself, making existing hair appear thicker and healthier. Even if new hair doesn't grow, the hair that is there can look better. Using coconut oil as a leave-in treatment, then shampooing out thoroughly is usually the best option.

Biconi Products Can Help

Biconi offers a line of hair care products that contain virgin coconut oil as well as plant extracts such as noni that will nourish the hair and scalp. Hair Rejuvenating Solid Shampoo and Hair Repair Conditioner have all the benefits of coconut oil alone, without the greasiness and limpness that can sometimes result. Both the shampoo and conditioner are all natural and don't contain parabens, sulfates, or other chemicals that can make hair loss worse or cause a bad reaction.

Hair loss is not something women just have to live with. By using natural products and investigating medical treatment options, many women can get significant improvement of their hair loss condition and reverse the impact of hair loss and thinning on their daily lives and self-image.
