Men: Here's Why You Need a Skincare Routine

Posted on

Guys have it easy when it comes to beauty rituals…right? No makeup to put on, no eyebrow tweezing, no eyelash curlers required. But that doesn’t mean that men shouldn’t pay attention to their skin. Both men and women have to think about how the environment affects skin health, like protecting the skin from the sun—or from free radicals, which attack and damage the skin.

Men, if you’re still washing your face with plain old soap from the grocery store, then your skin probably isn’t too happy with you. If your skin isn’t happy, then it probably isn’t living up to its potential for enhancing your appearance. Think about it—how often do you notice acne? Or subtle signs of aging, like fine lines? Adding a simple skincare regimen to your morning could be just what you need.

Read on to find out why!

Prevents Aging

If you’re young, you may not have considered how early signs of aging can progress. Collagen and elastin breaks down in the skin over time, causing the skin to wrinkle and sag. Don’t wait until you start seeing signs of aging to fight back! A skincare regimen that uses Mother Nature’s powerful arsenal of ingredients, like the Biconi Noni Enzyme, essential oils, and extracts can fight free radicals and keep your skin looking younger longer.

Fights Acne

If you’re prone to breakouts, you may be able to help control excess oil production and bacteria simply by cleansing and exfoliating properly. Don’t assume you need harsh chemicals to resolve breakouts, try a simple skincare routine using natural products first, and see if that clears things up.

Enhances Your Appearance

If your skin is healthy, you’ll look better, plain and simple. Your complexion can actually make a huge difference in how you look, even if you think there’s no problem with your skin the way it is. Once you start caring for your skin properly, you’ll notice what a difference even simple care can make.

Makes You Feel Great

Confidence is one of your most attractive assets, and having great skin can really make a difference in how you present yourself. Imagine waking up every morning with clear skin you’re proud to show off to the world. Starting a skincare routine is the first step in getting the skin other guys envy.

Choosing the Right Products

That bar of soap you’ve been using? Probably isn’t going to cut it for your new simple skincare routine. Choosing the right products is half the battle when you’re planning your skincare regimen, so shop carefully. Your skin will not respond well to harsh chemicals, so a good rule of thumb is to shop for all-natural products that use cold-pressed (preferably organic) oils. Now is not the time to be worried about whether you’re buying products formulated for men; many products are repackaged with nearly the same formula.

Your two biggest concerns should be finding the right cleanser and moisturiser. For a cleanser, choose a high-quality product that contains anti-microbial and anti-aging ingredients, like virgin coconut oil. The moisturiser you choose can either be a serum, which has anti-aging benefits, or a moisturiser that won’t clog your pores.

Not sure where to start? The Biconi Natural Face Cleanser & Glow Serum Bundle might be the perfect starter kit for great skin.

A Simple Skincare Routine

If you’re going to start taking skincare seriously, then you’ll need to create a routine you can perform consistently. Moisturising once a week isn’t going to cut it; you need to be taking care of your skin every day to see real benefits. Here’s a straightforward routine you can use and tweak according to your own needs!

Step 1: Cleanse

Cleansing should be a twice-daily ritual: once when you wake up, and once before you go to bed. Men’s skin tends to be oilier than women’s but you don’t want to over-wash either, since you’ll dry out your skin, causing it to produce even more oil. Be gentle when you wash—there’s no need to scrub harshly with a washcloth. Use your fingers and warm water to clean off the dirt and oil without harming your skin. Pat, don’t rub your skin dry, using a soft towel.

Step 2: Exfoliate

This is a step you should be taking only once or twice a week, since you can damage your skin by exfoliating too much. Using a gentle, natural exfoliator, (sugar, salt, or oat-based), gently rub your face to remove dead skin and stimulate the cells. Rinse with cool water and gently pat dry.

Step 3: Moisturise

If you use a serum or oil moisturiser, you’ll only need a few drops, gently massaged into the skin after cleansing. You can also use Organic Argan Oil, which is an all-natural moisturiser that won’t clog pores or irritate your skin.

Step 4: Protect

Sun damage is serious. It can cause skin cancer, premature aging, and other skin problems, like brown discoloration. Don’t forget to finish off your skincare routine with a natural sunscreen that has an SPF of at least 30, to protect your facial skin. Don’t hesitate to reapply during the day!

Other Lifestyle Considerations

Our skin doesn’t just take cues from the environment outside. It’s also affected by what you eat and drink. Staying hydrated is key for keeping your skin vibrant and healthy, so be sure you’re drinking plenty of water. Many fruits and vegetables are not only hydrating, but contain powerful antioxidants that can help you look younger and feel great. Lifestyle changes and a simple skincare routine can make a huge difference in how your skin—and you—look. You may be surprised to find that your new skincare efforts help you lead a healthier, happier life!
